Importance of relocation
It is obvious wildlife belongs in the wild and should be admired from a
distance. The reason for this is so the laws of nature balance the
ecosystem. Due to the exponential population growth in humans we are
fast developing the earth and inhabiting areas previously uninhabited
except for wildlife.
ildlife can and will adapt but this does not always equate to a
balanced ecosystem. The Canada Goose is the perfect example of this and
one all of us are witnessing first hand…”
“What is good for the goose is not always good for the gander”.
This once threatened and now protected species have re-populated to the
point of recovery and then some. In many developed areas the species
can thrive where their natural predators cannot or at least not in the
numbers necessary to control the population.
The goal should not be to rid our areas of the Canada Goose but rather
assist nature when needed and to assist nature assist itself through
various measures. Ultimately this is to protect wildlife, the ecosystem
and human activities.
